The twins and triplets club was formed in 1997 when
a local Health Visitor recognised that there was a large number of
multiple births but no local support for the mothers. Because of this
she arranged for a room to be available within a Health Centre and
invited mothers of multiple births to come along. The
group is run by local mothers of twins and triplets in the Kirktonholme
Community Centre. During the school term we run a pre-5s
session on Fridays from 12- 2pm
and during the school holidays at the same time for children of
all ages. We also have a Sunday session for children
of all ages on the second Sunday of the month from 2-4pm.
A light lunch is provided at the Friday sessions, and snacks on
a Sunday.
We
can all fully appreciate the kind of difficulties you run into as
parents of twins (and triplets). Sometimes it makes a difference
just to talk to someone who understands; we all have found our own
way of coping and sometimes it's good to share experiences and solutions
to some of the tricky problems presented by having two or more children
at the same stage. The club's main aim is to offer a relaxed
and friendly atmosphere- a bit of time out!
Some of our club mums also attend parentcraft classes for expectant parents of multiples at Wishaw Maternity Hospital to offer advice and support at the early stages of pregnancy. We would be happy to extend this service to local health visitors and other anti-natal classes in the area, so feel free to email us with your request for assistance.
